It's simple.
In the nineties Daniel LaRusso kept fighting in competitions, and by the time he turned 21 he kinda became 'THE KARATE BOY'. Now that he's 40 years old or so, he refers to himself as 'THE KARATE MAN'.
Julie Pierce was never aknowledged as "Karate Kid" anyway (see #4, she is not called as such throughout the movie). She could have become a supporting character for Daniel in new adventures, given their fictional universe.
As simple as that, Dre Parker is 'THE KUNG FU KID'. The 2010 movie is called "The Karate Kid" as in "The Karate Kid Part 5", and that's because we can imagine Dre will meet with Daniel LaRusso in the future to come. So again, he could become a supporting character for Daniel in new adventures, given their fictional universe.

All throughout the watching the movie last night via Fast-Debrid, it never made sense to me as to why it was entitled Karate Kid when it has Kung Fu as its sport. Now it does makes sense (I think it does) to me when this thread explained that it was Karate Kid part 5. Thanks guys!!
